At The University of Kansas Health System in Great Bend, there are a variety of ways for you to volunteer and make a difference in the lives of patients. To help ensure your work is fulfilling and rewarding, your skills and interests will be matched to the needs of patients and staff in the health system.
Spiritual care volunteers will spend their time primarily in the emergency department, labor and delivery units and inpatient areas. They will visit patients and support their spiritual needs.
Hospice volunteers will spend quality end-of-life time with people. They will help people feel valued and cared for and may participate in activities such as playing games, writing letters, reading aloud, performing household activities such as cutting grass or shoveling sidewalks, or simply sitting as a companion.
Requirements
Volunteering:
high school student
Flu shot
Personal interview
Blood test to check for TB and immunity against childhood diseases (provided at no cost)
Hospital orientation and training or hospice orientation and training
Hospice volunteers must also have a valid driver’s license
